Chandeliers |
|
Q. |
How
do I know what size chandelier is best for my dining
room? |
|
A. |
Generally,
the diameter of a dining room chandelier should be
equal in inches to the length plus width of the
dining room in feet. Example: For a room measuring
12 feet x 15 feet, the fixture should have a
diameter of 27 inches. (12 + 15 = 27). |
|
Q.
|
How
far above my dining table should a chandelier hang? |
|
A. |
The
chandelier should hang 30 inches above the table and
12 inches narrower than the table. If the dining
room ceiling is higher than 8 feet, the chandelier
should be raised 3 inches for each additional foot
of ceiling height.

Mini-Pendants |
|
Q. |
Can
I extend or shorten the length of my mini-pendant? |
|
A. |
Generally,
each mini-pendant is
assembled using 3 sectional rods: either one 6 inch,
one 12 inch and one 18 inch, or three 9 inch. Each
of these rod sections can be purchased separately. |
|
Q. |
Will
a mini-pendant work on a sloped ceiling? |
|
A. |
Yes.
Most mini-pendants come with a swivel on the ceiling
canopies to handle very steep ceilings (almost 90

Ceiling
Fans
|
|
Q. |
How
far should a fan hang down from the ceiling?
|
|
A.
|
For safety, the
blades should be at least 7 feet above the floor.
For cooling, it is most efficient to have the blades
9 feet above the floor. |
|
Q. |
Can
ceiling fans really help reduce energy costs?
|
|
A.
|
Ceiling fans can
reduce heating costs by reducing the load on heating
equipment. When used in conjunction with your air
conditioner, a ceiling fan can also lower energy
costs by allowing you to set your air conditioner's
thermostat at a higher temperature. |
|
Q. |
What
direction should the fan turn in the summer?
|
|
A. |
For the warm, summer
months, the blades should be turning
counter-clockwise. |

|
A. |
No.
You may use less wattage, but never more. |
|
Q. |
Can
I use a dimmer on my fixture? |
|
A. |
Yes.
Using dimmers will increase the life of the
lighting fixture’s bulbs, but dimmers are
not compatible with ceiling fans. |
|
Q. |
What
is the difference between damp location and wet
location rating? |
|
A. |
Damp
indicates areas in which the fixture will have
indirect contact with moisture (bathrooms, garages).
Wet indicates an area in which the fixture may have
direct contact with moisture (outside, breezeways,
carports). |
|
Q. |
What
can I do to prevent my polished brass outdoor
fixtures from weathering? |
|
A. |
Weathering
over time is a natural process. A wax protectant can
